Hi Bernie or anyone familiar with Dutch and German
research,

I'm needing some help with research in the
Netherlands. My husband's great great grandfather Martin
deBeer immigrated from that area in 1855. At least two of Martin's
four children also immigrated. Family lore says we are from The
Netherlands. However the census says Martin and Edzart were born
in Prussia. I emailed someone familiar with Germany at the time. He
said since the oldest child is named Edzart it is likely they came from the
Groningen (Spelling?) area just Northeast (I think) of The
Netherlands. I believe they had a Count Edzart a few hundred years
ago. Martin deBeer was born January 1821. His son Edzart was born
December 1, 1849. I can't find Martin or his wife
Johanna anywhere in the 1860 census. In 1870 they are in Chicago
Illinois.

I have come to a blank wall in trying to locate some
immigration information on my Grandfather and Grandmother who came to the
United States in 1888(?) from Poland. Their names are: Michael and Josephine
Safranski. What I do have is that he may be from Warsaw and she may have been
born in Krakow. I believe they first went to Illinois and then to Minnesota. I
do not have access to any Census Records but it seems as though they should be
on 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records. I do not know all the info that are on
the census forms but possibly there could be some clues. I have been pretty
successful on the Verbout side of the family because I still have relatives in
The Netherlands and my wife's parents. Her Mother came from Croatia and her
Father came from Slovenia. Visited her relatives in Croatia during the Bosnian
war and obtained some information but have not been very successful obtaining
info on her Father.

Hope you can help.
