my cousin is so stubborn and she doesn’t remember how different things
were even back in the 50s. I lived in a small town and we didn’t
have supermarkets. A store was just a small room that had a counter that
a man stood behind and the shelves with the food on them were also behind the
counter. You would hand him a list and he would pull your groceries and
you either paid with money or he would write it down in a book and bill you
later. She doesn’t believe me, but I remember going to that store
for my mom to get a loaf of bread many many times.

If your grandmother said she gave birth in a store, I would be inclined to
believe her. You never know when the childbirth is coming, and it may
have come to quickly for her to even be able to get to doctor/hospital/home
which ever place they delivered back then. My dad was born at home on a
farm in Friend Oregon in 1920.
With my situation, however, they took their beloved time getting here, even at
the hospital.
