The "gulch" the freeway runs through did not exist. Homes and businesses were tore down and it was dug out.
Far and away most post offices in and around Portland were counters inside a store or business. It wasn't until the early 1960's that these started to go away. It was at that time the USPS established a rule that a substation could not exist within a mile of a regular post office. Perhaps the rule existed prior to that and it was due to USPS building more neighborhood post offices. I think it very unlikely that a community as small as Russellville had a stand alone PO. It was more likely in a general store, or some such.

<pre wrap="">Aaccording to USGS locator, it locates the PO along SE Pine St roughly
between 96th & 102nd Ave SE
I don't know what degree of accuracy they locate things with, nor what the
relation is between the name on the map and the actual location, but
assuming the position is fairly accurate there is little chance any homes
that might be of relevance are still their, the PO appears to be in a junk
yard and most of the neighborhood appears to be big box retail or
industrial.
