Having grown up in the Hood River Valley as a fruit rancher's daughter
I think that the Fruitland Express may have been not a place,
but a Union Pacific line that hauled fruit from areas having high
concentrations of pears, apples, and perhaps other fruit that had to
get to market. The line would have served any area that that needed
that kind of service. I remember seeing the bright yellow cars in the
valley while growing up, and if memory serves, it was the Pacific Fruit
Growers Express there. About 15 years ago while visiting family on the
east coast. I took a picture of the one of the cars because it seemed
so out of place but don't know that I could put my hands on the right
album tonight to scan a picture of it.
