Thank you for sending what you have on the Oregon
Harpole's. I see you have our family's bare bones data. However, it
was James Walker Harpole's wife who died on the Oregon Trail near Baker City,
Oregon, and he returned east to marry her cousin, who helped raise his younger
children and they had more kids. William Pope Harpole did not
return east to remarry.

There's much more about the Harpoles, along with various
spellings, in the HARPOLE COUSINS book. I've found
excerpts of this HARPOLE COUSINS book online and people can order an updated CD
of the book, which I plan to do. Here's the address for this source:

This book tells which of our Harpole family came in the 1851 Harpole Wagon
Train. It also tells that all of Wm. P. & Nancy M. Harpole's children
were born in Pike County, Illinois and they did come west with their
parents. Our Nancy E. Harpool/Harpole was only three years old that year,
so of course she was with her parents. Susan was eight and Paul was eleven
when they came to the Oregon Territory with their parents.

Our line comes from Nancy Eveline Harpool/Harpole, daughter
of Nancy Mary McMullen & William Pope Harpole, and who married
John Milton Hagey. They and their children lived mostly in
Union County, Oregon. I'll gather the rest of my sources to share with you
and Stephanie Flora, but it may take a while. When is your
deadline to complete your book? I'd like to get our
information to you before it's too late. We don't have any 1851 Trail
Journals, but the HARPOLE COUSINS book does have stories about the
journey.

The PIONEER MEMORIAL CEMETERY website has

I just noticed the cemetery's notes for William P. Harpole doesn't
mention that their is a large family plot marker that says HARPOLE behind the
families individual stones. That large marker is nearly covered with a
shrub surrounding it however. Their notes don't mention Wm. P. Harpole's
Oregon Donation Land Claim number, but I see you have that.
