<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=4>Diane, about the Dr. Royal. There
was a family of ministers who came to Oregon in 1853 on the Preacher Train via
the Applegate Trail route. That family has published a book called The
Royal Way West. Rev. William Royal preached the first sermon in Jackson
County when he arrived in 1853. He became the first headmaster of Umpqua
Academy in Douglas County. Subsequently hs son Fletcher Royal, also a
Methodist minister settled first in Jacksonville where he was a newspaper editor
for a while, and then became the headmaster of Ashland Academy, the pioneer
forerunner of Southern Oregon University. Perhaps one of their sons is
your missing Dr. Royal. Bob Casebeer</FONT></DIV>
