For several years I had been looking for a record of my great
grandmother. It was not listed on the archive index with all the other
family members and I was very puzzled. So, while at the Archives a few years ago
I started looking through the records of Columbia County and I
found what I was looking for! As mentioned, it was not on the index
where I looked because it was written incorrectly on the certificate. A
letter was left out of her name. Her son had signed the certificate and
all the other dates matched so I know it was her. So my suggestion might
be to look through each record in the particular county one by one and maybe you
will find it. Good luck!

Dear Rooters,

Just want to remind folks that you can receive copies of death
certificates that are more than 50 years old from the Reference Unit
here at the State Archives. We have just received the records from 1959
and opened them to researchers as of Monday the 4th.

You can send an email request to the reference desk at:

reference.archives@state.or.us

Cost for death certificates for in-state resident is $5.00, out-of state
resident is $10.00

Of course you are always welcome to visit in person and make a copy for
.25 cents.

Regards,
