Hello<BR>
I am new to the mailing list and need some information as to how to go about finding records for Linn County. I have a membership with Ancestry and have the census etc. I am interested in finding land records, pension records and information regarding an obscure cemetery called ??? Shilbroom, perhaps near Scio - I have a death certificate but cannot read some of it well. I hope to travel down to Oregon in the next few weeks to do some searching so any info would be really appreciated.<BR>
Thanks<BR>
Lynda<BR>

<DIV>Since I don't know the exact year or date of my aunt's death but know that it was sometime around 1914 or 1915 and she was a child. Is there anyway of knowing if there was some sort of epidemic in that time frame in Portland? I know she is buried in the old pioneer cemetery in Portland and I have contacted them but they only have a record of her being buried there with two of her siblings and a step mother (all in the same area).</DIV>
<DIV>I would really like to know the date of her death and what she died from but can't find a death record.</DIV>
<DIV>Her name was Verna Marie Hardwick and her parents were Noah Hardwick and Venus Howell.</DIV>
<DIV>Any help would be greatly appreciated.</DIV>

I have only transcribed 1907-1910 for the Coos county records, but it's possible that such indexes were kept in other counties as well. I can tell you that the ledger I found is not on the Coos County Records Inventory [http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/county/cpcoosdescrip.html] so without a personal visit looking for such a book, you might miss it. If it exists, it would at least let you know if the person was suffering from the disease near the time of their death, and if it was a widespread problem in that area. </SPAN></DIV>

I was just hoping to see his name there, so only searched Portland and Astoria. since the death had not yet occured, it would not have been listed. You can type in one name and search all the above papers....but it comes up with a zillion entries. This is a beta site so at times in is 'resting'. I can tell you that the ledger I found is not on the Coos County Records Inventory [<A class=ecxmoz-txt-link-freetext href="http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/county/cpcoosdescrip.html" target=_blank>http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/county/cpcoosdescrip.html</A>] so without a personal visit looking for such a book, you might miss it. If it exists, it would at least let you know if the person was suffering from the disease near the time of their death, and if it was a widespread problem in that area. </SPAN></DIV>

<DIV>Les, Newspaper pages are available for newspapers published between 1846-1922 are the years available for papers in Portland, Ontario,, Oregon City, Bend, Scottsburg, Coos Bay, Burns, Salem, Jacksonville, Medford and Klamath Falls. I was just hoping to see his name there, so only searched Portland and Astoria. since the death had not yet occured, it would not have been listed. You can type in one name and search all the above papers....but it comes up with a zillion entries. This is a beta site so at times in is 'resting'.
