Basically it would be $5 each if you live in Oregon or $10 each out-of-state. If you happen to live near Salem or are going to Salem, you can go by the State Archives and make a copy of the death certificate from their file for 25 cents each. This link will give you info on the services and fees for the State Archives. This information on this death index including name, date of death and certificate # are all you will need to be able to order. <TD vAlign=top>Dan; As to the surname thing as far as I know there is no real rhyme nor reason to that, it is strictly up to the woman at the time of divorce. I have a friend who has been through several husbands, but always reverts to surname of 1st one, most likely because that is the surname of her children.
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>Do you have the DLC history. Depending on final proving dates on those, assuming it was proved or whatever the term for completion of paper work there, it might include probate IF that is the case it should show up in the DLC book. </DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>If their was any probate process the bare minimum is there should be some notice published in the local newspaper at that time. Unfortunately finding that can be harder than finding the courthouse records. My memory being what it is I don't recall the circumstances of his demise; if you don't have a certain location and time for his death it is possible he just disappeared. That is the case with my maternal gg grandfather.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial> Walter was said to have an entry in the very first book in Modoc co for water rights, I have never seen a photo of that, but I know he had land deals and DLC in Oregon and CA.
