    Chris,   my suggestion to look at the image would let you know if 
    it was the census enumerator who made the mistakes rather than the
    indexers or arbitrator.  You could also see who they talked to in
    getting the info.<br>

    When I looked on Ancestry.com  there was a Ralph William Perry who
    was in the 1930 census in Hood River area, is that your ancestor?<br>

            Using FamilySearch worked for me. Interesting though, is
            that when I checked my family all the birth years were off
            by one year and the given/middle names were switched, e.g.,
            my grandfather was Ralph William Perry but the web site
            showed William Ralph Perry.<br>
