<div>It seems I created some confusion with the Facebook
site. My primary webpage at <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.oregonpioneers.com/ortrail.htm">http://www.oregonpioneers.com/ortrail.htm</a>
is absolutely not going anywhere. I am updating it daily
and will probably still be doing so as they try to lower me
in my grave. The last time I looked at the statistics for
it, which was over 6 months ago, I was receiving over
300,000 hits a MONTH. As you can imagine, that generates
some inquiries and email. I answer all the email myself and
try to do so in a timely manner.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>One of the questions I am often asked is regarding
resources and other family researchers. It occurred to me
that if we could join together on facebook and share
upcoming events being held at historical societies, reunion
information, ask questions on a particular surname or a
particular area we are researching, etc it would perhaps be
helpful to those doing research. It will also allow me, on
a regular basis to let everyone know what surname or year of
emigration or subject I am currently working on so that I
can gather input from others interested in the same subject.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I am personally very careful about the private
information I give out about myself. I don’t allow posts on
the timeline page of my personal facebook page because it is
too public. I have my settings for my family set so that
only members of the family can see their posts. I don’t
post when I am going to be gone or any other information
that can be used in a harmful way. As technology becomes
more and more a way of life I see people putting themselves
in a harmful position by being way too open about their
children, their jobs, their vacations, etc. If it could be
beneficial to a criminal don’t post it. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Finally, if you aren’t totally frightened off of the
internet for good and are a facebook user, please feel free
to check in on the Oregon Pioneers facebook page.
Otherwise, I am always available through my website for
questions, comments, corrections and update. Any pictures
that I have donated to me on the early pioneers will
available on my website in the photo gallery. </div>
