Janet,

The entry you found on the Oregon Historical Records Index was for the Portland Death Register which is a separate series from the death certificates. Because the death date is 1912 there would be a death certificate available from the Reference Unit here at the Archives rather than having to request it from the Vital Records office in Portland. You can contact the reference unit by email if you would like and make your request.

That email is: archives.reference@state.or.us

The certificate includes an area for recording information about the parents, but it isn't always completed if the informant for the certificate doesn't provide the information. The information found in volume 9 of the Portland Death register would be unlikely to contain information about the parents as that was not normally information captured in the recording process.

Hope this is helpful, good luck in your search.

I have found a record for a death at the at genealogy.state.or.us site.
Can I then get a copy of the death certificate? The death is in 1912. Do I have to mail for a death cert, or are there old ones online. The record on line doesn't have parents name, which is mainly what I am interested in. It shows the following, which I don't know what it means:

Name: Russell, Zachary S
Date: 10/27/1912
Record Type: Portland Deaths
County: no county
Source: City of Portland
Identifier: Vol 9

I don't know what it means by no county, Source: city of Portland, and Vol 9. I hate to waste time sending for it if that's not where I need to look or if this is all the info that is available.

Thanks,
