<DIV style="PADDING-LEFT: 7px; MARGIN: 0px 0px 0px 15px; BORDER-LEFT: #050505 1px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #f3f3f3"><SPAN style="FONT: bold 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000">Researcher Training with OR SHPO Archaeological Inventory Database <BR>(SHPO Archaeology Library)<BR><BR></SPAN><SPAN style="FONT: 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000">Over the last few years SHPO has created an integrated "Archaeological Inventory Database"--a computerized database consisting of digitized maps of known cultural resources and previous archaeological surveys; scanned archaeological site forms and survey reports; a bibliographic database; General Land Office (GLO) survey maps and orthographic photo maps; and various periodicals and publications dealing with Oregon and Pacific Northwest Archaeology. The goal is to provide researchers with a computer terminal at the Salem SHPO that contains a comprehensive database for researchers to fully investigate their area of interest.<BR><BR></SPAN><SPAN style="FONT: bold 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000">FREE TRAINING</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT: 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000"> is now being offered by SHPO to assist qualified archaeological researchers in accessing and utilizing these databases effectively. </SPAN><SPAN style="FONT: 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000; TEXT-DECORATION: underline">This training will be optional for a few months in 2008 and 2009, but will subsequently be mandatory/pre-requisite for all researchers requesting appointments.</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT: 12pt Georgia; COLOR: #000000"> This future requirement is to help reduce time SHPO Archaeologists currently dedicate (almost daily) to orienting new researchers on the computer database as well as optimizing the researchers time and energies spent during their appointment.
