<DIV>In cooperation with the National Park Service, Cultural Resources Geographic Information Services, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Oregon State Historic Preservation Office.<BR> <BR>Review geographic information system (GIS) concepts combining spatial technologies and database management systems in the area of historic preservation. Learn how to use GIS applications for identification, evaluation, protection and preservation of cultural resources. From assisting with inventories, to mapping historic districts and battlefields, to mitigating the impact of disasters on historic areas, GIS technology can be used to provide a better basis for planning and decision-making for the nation's heritage. An agenda is available online at <A href="http://www.npi.org">www.npi.org</A>.<BR> <BR>Instructor: Deidre McCarthy, historian and technical services specialist, Cultural Resources Geographic Information Systems (CRGIS), National Park Service; facilitates the use of GIS to manage the location, status, and condition of cultural resources<BR> <BR>LA/CES. This seminar meets the criteria for programs in the American Society of Landscape Architects Continuing Education System and ASLA members will receive 6 learning units each day.</DIV>
