<p class="MsoNormal">“<b><i>Rimrock Draw Rockshelter: A Summary of the 2011-2013 Fieldwork at a Paleoamerican Site Near Riley, Oregon</i></b>” is the title of the April 1, 2014 lecture sponsored by the Oregon Archaeological Society. Dr. Pat O’Grady is the featured
speaker.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The presentation is at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) at 7:45 PM, and is free and open to the public. The talk is preceded by a general business meeting beginning at 7 PM, that is also open to the public.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto">Rimrock Draw Rockshelter is a small windbreak located adjacent to a dry stream channel on the northwestern periphery of the Harney Basin in southeastern Oregon. Though modestly proportioned, the shelter
has remarkable sedimentary depth and clear stratigraphic integrity that is punctuated with intermittent volcanic ash lenses. The rich archaeological deposits produce artifacts that date from 4,000 to 12,000 years in age, and possibly older. This presentation
will provide an overview of the excavations and select finds made over the past three years, including information about the stone tool assemblage, stratigraphic layering, and dated volcanic ash layers.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto">Dr. O'Grady, with the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from that institution. His primary research interests include hunter-gatherer
subsistence practices and early Holocene cultural trends in the Great Basin of western North America, zoo-archaeology, remote sensing, and patterns of human settlement and mobility. He has taught field schools in southeastern Oregon for the past 16 years,
and has worked closely with the Burns, Oregon Bureau of Land Management for over a decade.<o:p></o:p></p>
