 The Archaeologist must maintain full knowledge, understanding and experience with all local, state and federal cultural resource laws and be able to advise management, staff and consultants on all aspects of those laws. This position requires that the person
 meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards of 36 CRF Part 61 Appendix A in the field of archaeology, and meet the requirements under ORS 390.235 as a "qualified archaeologist".             <br>

This work includes knowledge of developing project scopes for work, for conducting research and analysis, and the preparation of reports for compliance of laws and regulations.  Often the job will include the planning and design of mitigation measures and their
 subsequent coordination and completion.  This position provides quality control of technical cultural resources documentation prepared by or for OPRD to comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations permit applications, and various legal findings. 
 This position supports OPRD management with Government-to-Government Relations with American Indian Tribes Program in Oregon, and provides training to OPRD managers and technical staff on maintaining sovereign governmental relationships with the nine Federally–recognized
 Tribes of Oregon. In addition, this position also works directly with out- of- state federally recognized Tribes on a project-by-project basis.<br>

<strong>Working Conditions: </strong><br>
About 40% of the working time is spent in an office environment, typically including processing information collected in the field and preparing project plans, contracts, presentations, and procedure manuals. About 45% of the working time is spent working outdoors
 - often in rough terrain, and inclement weather conditions. This outdoor activity will include archaeological survey and excavations.  About 15% of the time is spent traveling to work sites throughout the Region and State. Frequently interacts with the public.
