<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington State extends over 140 miles along the western slope of the Cascade Mountains, from the Canadian border to the northern
boundary of Mt. Rainier National Park. The forest contains about 1.7 million acres of National Forest System lands. The MBS is considered an “urban forest.” The Forest lies within five counties (Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, and Pierce) which contain over
55 percent of the State’s total population. Over five million people live in or near the Puget Sound metropolitan area and are within a one to two-hour drive of the Forest boundary, making the Forest one of the most visible in the country.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie is a Forest rich in natural diversity, with a complex ecosystem that includes glacier-covered peaks, volcanoes, alpine lakes and many, many rivers
and streams, old-growth stands of timber, and a multitude of plant, animal, and fish species. About 42 percent of the MBS is designated wilderness; the Skagit Wild and Scenic River includes about 158 miles of portions of four rivers; and large areas of the
forest are allocated to Late Successional Reserve and Riparian Reserve (under the 1994 Forest Plan Amendment commonly known as the Northwest Forest Plan). The MBS provides habitat for a number of federally-listed threatened and endangered fish and wildlife
species, including grizzly bear, the northern spotted owl, Chinook salmon, steelhead, bull trout, and more. Recreation opportunities abound, including winter sports at four major ski areas.

<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">This position is located at the Forest Supervisor’s Office (SO) in Everett, WA, a community in South Snohomish County, about 30 miles north of downtown Seattle. District
Offices are located in Sedro-Woolley, Darrington, Skykomish, and North Bend. <o:p>

<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">SUPERVISOR’S OFFICE: The duty station is located in Everett, Washington, population estimated to be around 100,000 (2010), which is located along Interstate 5, approximately
30 miles north of Seattle. The city offers full services and the surrounding suburbs offer the amenities of a large metro area, yet the benefits of rural settings. Recreational opportunities are plentiful, including hiking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, skiing,
hunting, and fishing. The cost of living in the area is high; however, employees receive a locality pay adjustment (2016 is 22.26%).
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">HOUSING: No government housing is available, but there is a wide variety of housing available in towns along the Interstate 5 corridor from Smokey Point/Arlington (13/19
miles north), Marysville/Lake Stevens area (6/8 miles northeast) to the Seattle/Bellevue area (29 miles south) and Monroe area (19 miles east).
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">WEATHER: The area experiences four distinct seasons but is moderated by the maritime influence of the Puget Sound, with mild summers, annual average precipitation of 38
inches, with occasional winter snowfall in the metro area. The North Cascades receive significant snowpack (Mt. Baker holds the world snowfall record at 1,120 inches in 1999-2000) that contributes to the many glaciers and outstanding fisheries across the landscape.
