The Silvies Cave site is located in the Silvies River Valley\, north of Burns\, Oregon at the margi n between the Columbia River Basin and the Northern Great Basin. Based on some limited testing\, we know that the site holds a stratified record of repeated human occupation\, including the excavated discovery of a fluted point base in deeper deposits that was underlain by...a stemmed projectil e point fragment! We're planning to expand excavations to learn more abou t this long record and to clarify whether a buried Clovis component exists at the site and whether stemmed points really do appear first here. As y ou all know\, this sort of site has been incredibly elusive and working he re should be a wonderful experience.\n\nI've attached a flyer that has mor e details about the field school.
