Oct. 2 PRSA luncheon – Interviewing 202: Way beyond the basics

Join ODOT senior spokesperson and former television news anchor Dave Thompson, APR, as he presents “Interviewing 202: Way beyond the basics.” During Dave’s talk, you will learn:
The six phases of an interview—and how you can be ready when the reporter “hits you hard” and then “hits you soft”
15 reporter tactics to get you to lose control, including machine gunning, taking your hat off and putting words in your mouth
How to develop answers to questions you know you’ll be asked
How to prepare for questions you didn’t think of
How to know ahead of time which questions you can answer and which ones you can’t
How to manage a live press conference in a crisis situation
 
Come prepared to interact and participate!
 
Dave Thompson, APR, has worked as a spokesperson, director of communications, website writer, manager, media consultant and media interviewing coach for the past 14 years. Before that, Dave spent 20 years in broadcast news. He worked as science reporter, business reporter, producer and anchor. For much of his eight years at KPTV in Portland, Dave was weekend anchor/producer. In 2002, Dave joined ODOT, where he leads ODOT’s regional spokespeople.
