<DIV><FONT color=#ff0000><STRONG>Help Stop Diabetes - <BR>Participate in the American Diabetes Association Alert Day March 23rd <BR></STRONG><BR></FONT>Diabetes has become the greatest public health crisis of the next quarter century. One in five Americans are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes or already have the disease but don't know it. If current trends continue, one out of every three children born today will face a future with diabetes. <BR><BR>To address this growing health crisis, the American Diabetes Association is asking for your help to promote awareness of risk factors and symptoms of diabetes. On <STRONG>March 23rd</STRONG>, the <STRONG>annual American Diabetes Association Alert Day<FONT size=1>SM</FONT></STRONG> , the Association will ask the American public, <EM>"What Will You Do to Stop Diabetes<FONT size=1>SM</FONT>? Know Your Risk".</EM> <BR><BR>The goal of Diabetes Alert Day is to reach out to the undiagnosed population with life-saving information about type 2 diabetes risk and prevention. The American Diabetes Association hopes you will encourage people in your community to take the Diabetes Risk Test using a brochure or by visiting <U><A href="http://www.stopdiabetes.com">www.stopdiabetes.com</A></U> . They can also call the Association at 1-800-DIABETES. If someone is found to be at high risk, they are urged to follow-up with a health care provider.<BR><BR><STRONG><U>Activities you can do in your community to create awareness about diabetes risk factors include:</U></STRONG><BR><BR>*<STRONG>Place a Stop Diabetes/Risk Test Display in a high traffic area</STRONG> with a focus on risk </DIV>
<DIV> factors and symptoms of diabetes. Include healthy lifestyle tips to help prevent diabetes.<BR><BR>*<STRONG>Conduct a community screening using the risk test.</STRONG> Event information can be posted </DIV>
<DIV> on the Associations event calendar to help promote the activity.<BR><BR>*<STRONG>Promote Diabetes Alert Day through the media</STRONG>. Sample newsletter articles and </DIV>
<DIV> radio public service announcements are available for your use. Promote the Alert along </DIV>
<DIV> with services you provide through your diabetes education program, health department or </DIV>
<DIV> other community resources.<BR><BR>*<STRONG>Promote access to the risk test via <U><A href="http://www.stopdiabetes.com">www.stopdiabetes.com</A></U></STRONG> through e-mail </DIV>
<DIV> announcements to your fellow employees or other companies in your community.</DIV>
