As part of the CDC's Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, the UMDNJ APEX has worked with states to better describe and interpret observed associations between air pollutants and certain health outcomes, including birth outcomes and cardiovascular disease. In this webinar, we focus primarily on the association of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) with adverse birth outcomes. We demonstrate how the association between total PM2.5 and birth outcomes can vary by state. One possible explanation for this variation is that the specific PM2.5 components differ by region. We discuss some of our preliminary findings and implications of the associations between PM2.5 component species and adverse birth outcomes.
