Radon Training Coming In May!

Are you interested in becoming a certified radon measurement and/or mitigation professional?
Oregon Health Authority (OHA) can host a five day training class on radon measurement and mitigation with instructors from the University of Colorado's Western Radon Regional Training Center<http://www.wrrtc.net/> (WRRTC). Please see WRRTC's radon training page<http://www.wrrtc.net/classroom-course-form.html> for more information on class content and associated fees.

Successfully passing the classes and proctored exam allows you to then apply for certification as a radon measurement and/or mitigation professional from the National Radon Proficiency Program<http://aarst-nrpp.com/wp/certification> (NRPP). A company with at least one NRPP certified professional is eligible to be added to one or both lists of local measurement and mitigation contractors on OHA website. Although we do not recommend any specific companies, we provide this list as a resource.

The next radon training is scheduled for May 1-5, 2017 at Portland State Office Building. The measurement class will take place Monday and Tuesday, May 1 and 2, with the exam to follow on Tuesday afternoon for those who are interested. The mitigation course will take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 3-5, with the exam to follow Friday afternoon for those who are interested.

If you are interested in taking either or both of these classes, please contact us<http://public.health.oregon.gov/PHD/Directory/Pages/program.aspx?pid=63> with the following information for further details:

  1. Your full contact information (mailing address, email, phone, etc.)
  2. How many people from your company would like training

Health Licensing Office is recruiting for Environmental Health Registration Board
Oregon’s Environmental Health Registration Board is recruiting for two members: an environmental health specialist with at least four years of experience in environmental sanitation and one representative of the food/alcohol beverage retail industry.
The Environmental Health Registration Board oversees the practices of environmental health specialists and waste water specialists and meets roughly twice a year at the Health Licensing Office in Salem. The environmental health specialist on the board represents the perspective of the regulated profession, while the food/beverage industry brings the perspective of a group who works with environmental health specialists in inspections.
Serving on a volunteer citizen board is a great way to dip a toe into the waters of state service. Board members participate in the rulemaking process, helping enact the laws adopted by the legislature and getting a better sense of how government works on the state level.
The HLO encourages candidates to apply but does not administer the appointment process.
Appointment to a board of an HLO-regulated profession is made by the Governor's Office of Executive Appointments<http://www.oregon.gov/gov/admin/Pages/How_To_Apply.aspx>, as are appointments for approximately 200 other state boards.
The office continuously recruits qualified applicants, who undergo a thorough background and reference check before being recommended for appointment.
To apply, complete an application/interest form from the Governor’s Office of Executive Appointments<http://www.oregon.gov/gov/admin/Documents/Interest%20Form%20.pdf> and submit it to:
Executive Appointments, Office of the Governor
900 Court St. NE Room 160, Salem, OR 97301-4047
