Milt:
Thanks for the email. After reading the proposed Oregon Aerial Imagery
Index Data Standard, Susan Nelson at the BLM does bring up a good
question. Under the "Procedures for Amending GIS Standards in Oregon"
document, under Process for Major Amendments, line item #1: "Discuss
issues and proposal changes with appropriate FIT group."
http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/EISPD/GEO/docs/standards/ProceduresforAmending
Standards_20081007.pdf
The BLM (standing member of OFIT) has been working on an Aerial Imagery
Standard in-house for their own use which they planned to share with the
Orthoimagery FIT. Had this recent development been brought to the
attention of the Orthoimagery FIT group early on then perhaps there
could have been a more collaborative effort. With that said could you
please address Susan's question (via Orthoimagery List server) regarding
which FIT group took this effort on and why? This action should be
clarified to prevent any discrediting the authority of Ortho FIT and the
roles of its members.
Serving as the chair of a FIT group I can appreciate any contributions
to better the quality of the state's spatial data sets, and so this is
my main reason for addressing any communication concerns. I appreciate
the efforts you have put into this new Aerial Imagery Index Standard,
however I do not want to run the risk of losing Orthoimagery FIT
membership because we're not adhering to our own policies.
Sincerely,

Randy, Susan:
The draft was made available in July but I just posted it for review
yesterday. This delay was due to an oversight on my part and I apologize
if this is causing any confusion.

Susan:
Thanks for the email. I am not sure what FIT group this imagery
standard was involved with as I just found out about this yesterday. I
will forward your email response on to the DAS GEO Framework Coordinator
in hopes that he can shed more light on the subject matter.

Hi Randy,
I just wondered what FIT worked on the development of the Oregon Aerial
Imagery Index Data Standard. I was surprised to see it - thought it
would
have been the Orthoimagery FIT but I hadn't heard that it was
undergoing a
standardization. Was it a team effort?
