2009 NAIP Ortho Imagery project update July for 2009:
Folks:
FSA's NAIP program for Oregon is in full swing this summer. Aerial Services Inc was awarded the Oregon Imagery acquisition for summer 2009. The flights are currently in process (June 1 - July 15 West side of State, and Aug 1- 15 East side of state).
The imagery deliverables from FSA will consist of two product: The first product is the traditional Color County Mosaic (CCM) of 1-meter resolution (3 band image), and the second product will be the 1-meter DOQQ's (4 band IR). The CCM's should be available in a natural color MrSID format approximately 30 days after acquisition. This means that that data will come into the Oregon FSA Oregon who will then distribute sometime around late September early October. As far as distributions goes, once I get the CCM's then I will re-project the CCM's into Oregon Lambert (MrSID format) for the State agencies.
The 1-meter DOQQ's will then be delivered to the Corp of Engineers via a contract with DAS's Geo office (CY Smith is the contact) for reprocessing into a ½ meter product via a subcontractor. I am still not sure as to when these datasets will be available to Oregon agencies as it depends on a number of factors i.e. when sub contractor gets the data, number of errors with data, etc. The final release date and distribution of the ½ meter product is still unclear to me at this time. DAS's Geo Office originally desired a 7 ½ minute DOQ format product in JPEG2000 format, however the JPEG2000 format has had problems and so the data will be delivered in MrSID format instead.
Once we get closer to the final data delivery date (early Sept) I will let you know where we are with the project. For a status update on the flying schedule please refer to the Orthoimagery Framework Web site at http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/EISPD/GEO/fit/orthoimagery/OrthoFrame.shtml
