Subject: 2009 statewide half meter imagery now available
8/12/2010
The 2009 half meter imagery is now available!
As you are likely aware, GEO has limited staff resources for data distribution. All requests from Oregon state and local government for the 2009 imagery will be placed in a queue on a first requested first served basis. If you have already contacted GEO you are in the queue. If you want to be placed in the queue to receive the imagery email David Mather (david.mather at state.or.us). You can also email David to confirm your status. We have a long list of requestors already, so it may take some time before we'll be able to get your imagery to you.
If you want the imagery more quickly, we have an informal arrangement with Ascent GIS in Spokane to make copies, do reprojections, mosaicking, etc. for a reasonable fee. Please contact Mike McGuire (mikem at ascentgis.com, 509-747-2495) of Ascent GIS. If you are already in the queue, but would like to get the imagery from Ascent, please let GEO know so we can take you off the list. Private companies will need to contact Ascent GIS.
This is a preliminary release which means: 1) we've discovered some issues while doing a check of 10% of the quads, 2) we're working with the vendor to identify issues that can be resolved, and, 3) there will likely be replacements to some of the product you are now receiving. The great majority of these issues are relatively minor and will not impair the usability of the product and we know many of you are quite anxious to start using it.
We have a brief period of time, 4-5 weeks, during which additional issues can be reported and, in some cases, resolved. So, we'd like your assistance in looking over the quads that we haven't reviewed yet. There are almost 6000 images (2000 per projection and 3 projections) so we ask that only "substantial" issues be reported. We understand that this is a subjective measure and will vary depending upon the viewer and the discipline.
Please follow this procedure if you discover an issue you'd like to report:
1. Check the status map (http://gis.oregon.gov/DAS/EISPD/GEO/web_services/DAS/orthoQC.html). If the issue you see is in a quad that has already been reviewed we know about the problem and there is nothing else you need to do.
2. If the issue is in a quad that has not been reviewed then please send an email to Milt (milton.e.hill at state.or.us) including the following information and formatting:
- Email subject line: "Issue report <ohio_code>" - example: Issue report 43118-H4
- Body of the email:
- Ohio_code: (repeated from subject line)
- Projection: ("oregon lambert, state plane, or utm)
- Description of issue: (a brief written description of the issue)
- Screen shot: Attach a .jpg to the email illustrating the issue. Please do not paste the image in the message nor send a link.
- Your contact info: (name, email, phone)
Adhering to this standardized format will help us streamline our handling of the info and reporting to the vendor.
The Status map identifies the quads that were included in the initial 10% review and it will be periodically updated as reports come in. We'll also use it to announce the availability of replacement quads.
After we've worked our way through these issues we'll produce a statewide mosaic which will then be available thru Oregon Imagery Explorer (http://oregonexplorer.info/imagery/).
One last item: Use the following band display combination to view the near infrared:
Band 2 -> blue channel
Band 3 -> green channel
Band 4 -> red channel
