Suddenly, Deputy Schmidt noticed a male enter the water and began swimming across the river’s swift current who quickly became distressed. The deputies jumped into action. Deputy Schmidt maneuvered the patrol boat near the victim. By this time, the victim became entangled in a strainer. Deputy Cobb immediately and accurately deployed a throw bag to the victim and helped extricate him into the patrol boat. The victim was uninjured and taken to the boat ramp. This situation could have followed a predictable outcome had the deputies not been at the right place at the right time –the victim was not wearing a life jacket and was intoxicated.
