The canal has been periodically dredged to keep access open between the lakes for boats and the canal also serves as an outlet for high water inflow to North Tenmile Lake. Without this outlet, portions of the City of Lakeside and the commercial facilities on North Tenmile Lake could be subject to flooding. The anticipated construction will occur this fall. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>The Board approved $215,196 in state boater funds combined with $5,686 of in-kind contributions, $5,000 in applicant cash and $24,804 in federal Clean Vessel Act funds for a project total of $250,686. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>The Oregon State Marine Board is funded entirely by user fees, and the revenue generated from the fees goes back to boaters in the form of boating facility improvements, law enforcement services, and education and outreach. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-indent:.5in;line-height:200%'>For more information about this grant and temporary closures, contact Coos County Parks at 541-396-3121.
