</v:shape><![endif]--><![if !vml]><img width=416 height=299 src="cid:image009.jpg@01CC8332.95663A50" align=right hspace=12 v:shapes="Picture_x0020_5"><![endif]><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:200%'> The Oregon State Marine Board recognized the efforts of Sr. Trooper Adam Shimer and Trooper Jim O’Connor for saving two lives, at their annual post-season Law Enforcement Conference, held on Monday, September 26 in Eugene. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:200%'> On August 21, 2011 while on routine ocean patrol, the Troopers were notified of two capsized kayaks with people in the water near the Peter Iredale shipwreck. Troopers O’Connor and Shimer traveled through dense fog, with often less than 100 foot visibility from the area of the Columbia River mouth until both boaters were found. The boaters were spotted clinging to their kayaks. Both individuals and their boats were retrieved. The boaters displayed signs of hypothermia and had been in the water an estimated 45 minutes. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:200%'> “Thanks to Trooper Shimer and Trooper O’Conor for their determination to find these individuals under difficult environmental conditions,” said Marty Law, Boating Safety Manager for the Marine Board. “It’s not easy to locate victims from capsizing in the ocean and these Troopers made the difference.
