Kari Gilje - Internal Revenue Service 

Kari is a Senior Stakeholder Liaison with the Internal Revenue Service in Seattle, WA.  Kari began her 20 year career answering tax questions for business owners and taxpayers. She then went on to manage education programs such as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and small business tax education efforts in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii.  In her current position, Kari works with representatives from business associations and government agencies to ensure their clients and members have the latest federal tax information.

Cathy Tavares - Oregon State Department of Revenue 

Cathy Tavares is a Public Service Representative in the Business Division/Program Coordination Unit, working with the Oregon Department of Revenue in Salem. She has worked at the agency for almost 14 years, specializing in Business and Payroll Tax Compliance for the last 12 ½ years. 

In her current position, Cathy is responsible for providing employers with information on technical and legal questions, as well as handling payroll tax compliance issues.  She conducts educational presentations to tax practitioners and employers on a variety of payroll withholding tax topics, and is the administrator and main contributor of the “PayrollTax News” Listserv, a bi-monthly newsletter that provides the employer community with the most current and up to date payroll tax information.  

Cathy’s main focus is to provide accurate and concise information to the employer community to allow them to successfully navigate state payroll withholding tax requirements.
