From pamella.johnson at state.or.us Fri Jun 1 09:45:24 2012 From: pamella.johnson at state.or.us (Pamella Johnson) Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2012 09:45:24 -0700 Subject: [OSSSA218] Save the Date IRS Employer Training September 19-20, 2012 Message-ID: <4FC88F33.CD1F.0048.1@PERS.STATE.OR.US> Good morning: This year the annual IRS-sponsored employer training will be held September 19-20, 2012. Once again it will be conducted at the BPA Building in Portland (near the Lloyd Center) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presenters representing the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the Oregon Department of Revenue will be participating. Registration forms and the agenda will be sent out a month prior to the event date. There is no charge for this event and CPE certification will be provided for those desiring it. On another note, we bid bon voyage to Lori Stieber who is relocating with the IRS (and her husband) to Minnesota. Lori has been Oregon's Federal, State and Local Government (FSLG) IRS contact for the past three years. She has been a tremendous resource and a terrific partner for those of us here in Oregon. We wish her all the very best in her new adventure. Our loss is truly Minnesota's gain. Looking forward to seeing you September 19-20, 2012 Pamella Johnson Oregon State Social Security Coordinator Oregon PERS 503.603.7633 From pamella.johnson at state.or.us Tue Jun 5 10:56:58 2012 From: pamella.johnson at state.or.us (Pamella Johnson) Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2012 10:56:58 -0700 Subject: [OSSSA218] Fwd: Information on Tax Exempt Bonds References: <1338914074030.289695.72740037.bulletin.irs@service.govdelivery.com> Message-ID: <4FCDE5FA.CD1F.0048.1@PERS.STATE.OR.US> Good morning: I am forwarding an email distributed by the Federal, State and Local Government (FSLG) division of the IRS related to sale of assets financed with tax-exempt bonds by state and local governments and 501(c)(3) organizations. We are providing the information below on behalf of the IRS Tax Exempt Bonds office, for the attention of governmental officials who are involved in the tax exempt bond process and in the sale/liquidation of assets that were financed with bond proceeds. *Sale** of Assets Financed with Tax-Exempt Bonds by State and Local Governments and 501(c)(3) Organizations* To raise needed funds, state and local governments may plan to sell property financed with tax-exempt bonds. The sale of such property could cause the bond issue to become taxable. A timely remedial action, if necessary, will help ensure that the interest on the bond issue remains tax-exempt. Tax Exempt Bonds (TEB) focuses on providing assistance to bond issuers in understanding their tax responsibilities. TEB has initiated an outreach and educational services program to increase understanding and compliance with tax law applicable to tax-exempt bonds. As part of this service TEB is providing this article [ http://www.irs.gov/taxexemptbond/article/0,,id=257184,00.html ] concerning the sale of property financed by tax-exempt bonds. Governmental issuers may use this information to establish practices to monitor tax compliance throughout the period that their bonds are outstanding. For more information please visit the Tax Exempt Bond [ http://www.irs.gov/taxexemptbond ] website. ________________________________________________________________________ If you have a technical or procedural question relating to government entities, please visit the IRS.gov Web site [ http://www.irs.gov/govt/fslg/article/0,,id=96063,00.html ].
