Hey all! Well, the YMAs have been announced, and the Michael L. Printz Award honoring the best book written for teens, based entirely on its literary merit goes to: "Legendary Frybread Drive-In: Intertribal Stories," edited by Cynthia Leitich Smith! This year's Printz Honor Books are "Cope Field," written by T.L. Simpson; "The House No One Sees," written by Adina King; "Sisters in the Wind," written by Angeline Boulley; and "Song of a Blackbird," written and illustrated by Maria van Lieshout.
It's very cool and exciting when our Mock Printz list aligns with the actual Printz, and this year we picked two of the honors, not to mention that Death in the Jungle got the Excellence in Non-fiction award and the author, Candace Fleming, the Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award in writing for Young Adults! I hope y'all enjoyed reading and chatting about your favorite books as much as I did. The votes are in, and the statewide Mock Printz title that got the most points is Death in the Jungle! (S)Kin was next, followed by Sisters in the Wind and The Corruption of Hollis Brown.
We're looking forward to meeting up in Salem next January for an in-person Mock Printz workshop. In the meantime, if you read something great published in 2026, let us know! Maybe it'll make the list!
This year's Mini Mock Printz titles:
* Song of a Blackbird by Maria Van Lieshout
* Death in the Jungle: Murder, Betrayal, and the Lost Dream of Jonestown by Candace Fleming
* The Corruption of Hollis Brown by K. Ancrum
* Banned Together: Our Fight for Reader's Rights by Ashley Hope Pérez
* Sisters in the Wind by Angeline Boulley
* (S)Kin by Ibi Zoboi
* Run Away With Me by Brian Selznick
* I Am the Swarm by Hayley Chewins
Bestest,
Lisa
