Oregon Library Association’s Children’s Services Division is sponsoring a brand
new workshop in order to help you develop evaluation skills and understanding
about what makes nonfiction for youth excellent. </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black">We
are very lucky to be joined this year by author, <b>Marc Aronson</b>! Aronson
will be doing a special afternoon session for workshop participants, but can be
attended independent of the workshop.</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black">Aronson
won the first <span><span class="">Sibert</span></span> Award in 2001 with his book <b><i>Sir Walter Ralegh and
the Quest for El Dorado</i>. </b>He is the leader in the field in writing
fantastic nonfiction books for youth of all ages.  <i>Sugar Changed the
World: A Story of Magic, Spice, Slavery, Freedom, and Science</i>;  <i>Master
of Deceit: J. Edgar Hoover and America in the Age of Lies</i>; and <i>If Stones
Could Speak: Unlocking the Secrets of Stonehenge</i> are just a few of his
books that have really raised the bar on great nonfiction </span><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black">storytelling that truly inspires readership in youth</span><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black">. Not only does he
publish great books for kids, his column with <i>School Library Journal,</i> </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"><a href="http://www.slj.com/category/opinion/consider-the-source/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(17,85,204)">Consider the Source</span></a></span><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black"> shows librarians the
possibilities of nonfiction in their libraries, and he is the expert resource
in helping libraries navigate the Common Core standards. </span></p>

the amount of great nonfiction being published for youth, and the push in

2015 CSD <span><span class="">Mock</span></span> <span><span class="">Sibert</span></span> Workshop follows up on the long-standing CSD tradition of
offering high quality <span><span class="">Mock</span></span> workshops.  This time around, we will be
presenting a look at one of the newer ALA Youth Awards:  The</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Times"><a href="http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/geiselaward" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black;text-decoration:none"> </span></a></span><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Arial;color:black">Robert F. <span><span class="">Sibert</span></span> Medal is a book award of the
Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American
Library Association. It is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s)
of the most distinguished informational book published in the United States in
English during the preceding year. </span></p>

     as a large group for more lively discussion to crown the 2015 CSD <span><span class="">Mock</span></span>
