<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Sharing some resources in case you have patrons or students (or their caregivers) worried about a recent trend that has shown up in Oregon: skimmers at grocery stores. Most SNAP funds are distributed via EBT
cards, which work like a credit card, but don’t have the same chip technology. Scammers are stealing EBT card numbers and using those SNAP funds in fraudulent transactions across the country, leaving those in need without those few dollars.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">There are several ways to <u>
<a href="https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/benefits/Pages/protect.aspx">protect an EBT card</a></u>, including freezing a card between uses, blocking out-of-state and online purchases, and changing PIN numbers. All of those steps are easier with internet access,
a cell phone and digital literacy skills, none of which are universal. <br>
