Teaching from the Manual While Flying the Plane: Helping Boards Navigate It All

Tuesday, June 17 │ 11:00 am PT

Many board members (Trustee, Friends, and Foundation) come to libraries with a love for libraries and their community, but few know the work--and they end up spending their first year or two learning the work on the job. Imagine having to learn this work along with the tenets and principles of librarianship, while these same principles are being challenged by new legislative agendas and executive orders. Learn ways to help your boards get up to speed and to maintain that learning edge as new executive orders impact this work and the effect it has on the staff and community. Register<https://airtable.com/apphf4sCdaVrFi9dH/pagS5UIufyGnSdwHO/form> (once you select Oregon for the State/Province, you will be able to register for free.)

June Learning Live - Advocacy & The New Administration
Thursday, June 12 │ 11:00 am PT

In the short time since the election, it seems that everything related to government has been upended. Programs slashed, mass firing of federal employees, and lives in turmoil. It almost seems that there is nothing the average America can do to protect those people and programs dear to us...but there is.

This webinar will start with a sobering assessment of what's different and what's the same in these times. Participants will learn what basic elements of advocacy they can employ to ensure their voices are heard, and what tools still work. The program will also cover basic advocacy techniques both in state/federal capitals and back home. It will conclude with some successful advocacy case studies, reminding participants that democracy still can function in times of crisis. Register<https://airtable.com/apphf4sCdaVrFi9dH/shrXca38ncol9yU5f>. (once you select Oregon for the State/Province, you will be able to register for free.) Recording will be available for 30 days after the live event.
