Role in Providing Broadband Access</STRONG><BR><BR>Washington, DC-The Institute
of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) today launched a new series of data notes
to inform library and museum policies and practices. The first data note,
Libraries Use Broadband to Serve High Need Communities, focuses on the role that
public libraries play in providing access points to broadband services for
people in urban and rural areas, and families in need. To read the data note,

publications are part of our overall plan to develop and disseminate short,
intermediate, and long-range research projects," said Anne-Imelda M. Radice,
IMLS Director. "Our goal is to provide reliable and consistent data on museums
and libraries that these institutions can use to help demonstrate public
value."<BR><BR>Future IMLS Data Notes will provide a concise analysis of
existing data on the governance structure of museums; the library workforce; and
summer reading programs.<BR><BR>IMLS will soon begin releasing IMLS Research
Briefs, 4-6 page publications examining issues such as youth services in museums
and libraries, museum attendance, circulation and visitation trends in
U.S.<BR>libraries, and the conservation needs of small museums.<BR><BR>The IMLS
will continue to support in-depth research reports, such as the
recently-released Exhibiting Public Value: Government Funding for Museums in the
United States and other program evaluations.<BR><BR>About the Institute of
