Just wanted to share a resource/training opportunity that may be useful to many of you.  Michigan State PREP is partnering with Jen Salerno from Possibilities for Change to host a MITEY-Change workshop for our grantees.  The grantees are really looking forward to learning more about using motivational interviewing in their programs.  See below for more information.

As we continue working virtually, and not travelling or having in person trainings or grantee meetings. You may be looking for some ways to provide professional development.  I want to share a few of our NEW virtual learning opportunities for youth serving professionals.


MITEY Change: Motivational Interviewing Training for Empowering Youth towards Change provides education and resources to enhance professional's knowledge, skills, and confidence in providing effective and efficient youth risk coaching. MITEY Change (Motivational Interviewing Training for Empowering Youth towards Change) was developed specifically for professionals working in adolescent pregnancy prevention and sexual health to build confidence and skills in effectively coaching youth on risky behaviors and healthy lifestyles.

  *   Part 1: Getting Started (webinar)

     *   2-hour webinar introduction to MI fundamentals and constructs.

  *   Part 2: Keep it Going (online course)

     *   Self-guided learning modules provide interactive education and skill building on youth development, risk and effective use of MI strategies. Accessible 24/7, these modules support effective adult learning by providing a dynamic and engaging experience for participants.

  *   Part 3: Practice, practice, practice (in person or live virtual workshops)

     *   Experienced trainers provide a hands-on and interactive training with opportunities to analyze real-life examples, observe and engage in role play, take part in group activity and discussion, and, most importantly, practice MI skills.
     *   The workshop provides more in-depth skill building to use strategies when working with students, school personnel and parents in:

        *   Classrooms
        *   Advisory councils
        *   Peer leadership programs
        *   1:1 interactions (family planning, consent/dating violence, etc.)

Building these skills is more important now than ever, as we continue to see a rise in adolescent mental health struggles, substance use and other risks. Enhancing connections through use of effective communication strategies can help make what little time and interactions we have with youth that much more powerful.
