The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Forest Grove District has scheduled a meeting to provide public participation in the development of the District's proposed 2011-2021 Implementation Plan for state-managed forests in the District. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the ODF Forest Grove District office, 801 Gales Creek Road in the Tualatin Room.
Members of the public are invited to attend and participate in the meeting. The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities. Requests for an interpreter for the hearing impaired or other accommodations for persons with disabilities should be made at least 48 hours prior to the meeting. Questions about accessibility or special accommodations for the meeting can be directed to the Oregon Department of Forestry at 503-357-2191.
The 2011 Implementation Plan addresses policy changes adopted last year. In 2010, the Oregon Board of Forestry approved changes to the NW Oregon Forest Management Plan and revised performance measure targets for the Clatsop and Tillamook State Forests. The 2010 changes are related to the amount of complex structure (layered and older forest structure) that will exist in the forest, addresses how compliance with the federal Endangered Species Act will be achieved, sets goals for harvest volumes and expands strategies for 'species of concern.'
Written comments on the proposed 2011-2021 Implementation Plan for the Forest Grove District will be accepted until 5 p.m. on May 25, at either the ODF District office in Forest Grove or the Salem ODF headquarters.
Oregon's forests are among one of the state's most valued resources, providing a balanced mix of environmental, economic and social benefits. The ODF Forest Grove includes approximately 115,000 acres in eastern Tillamook, western Washington and Columbia Counties, including the eastern one-third of the Tillamook State Forest.
