[ODF_Private_Forests] Celebration of life - Kevin Weeks

Hi everyone -

A few thoughts and updates as we continue to honor Kevin Weeks' friendship, character and public service, and to come to terms with his passing:


*         A celebration of Kevin's life will be held at 1 p.m. this Saturday, April 6, at Adventure Christian Church, 2831 NE Newby St., in McMinnville. The Oregon Dept. of Forestry (ODF) family will be well represented, and one of our fire engines will be on hand.


*         Governor Kitzhaber and his team have been supportive throughout this difficult time. The Governor sent a personal message to Kevin's family, and through the State Forester's office, a letter of condolence<http://www.oregon.gov/odf/AGENCY_AFFAIRS/docs/040213_K_Weeks_Condolences.pdf> to the Department.


*         In addition, with the Governor's approval, flags at all ODF facilities will fly at half-staff on Friday, April 5, in Kevin's honor. Roger Welty will be sending out a separate flag notification email yet this afternoon.


*         A reminder that we have established a fund through which the ODF family can assist the Weeks family with immediate and longer-term needs, including the education of Kevin and Stacey's teen-age daughter, Jessica. Checks can be made out to the Weeks Forestry Family Fund (you'll need to use those words exactly) and deposited at any U.S. Bank branch or mailed to Mary Schmelz, here at 2600 State St., Salem, OR  97310.
