In response to the new Science content standards adopted by the Oregon State Board of Education, the Oregon Department of Education this summer convened a panel of 19 educators, parents, and community partners from around the state to recommend new alternate achievement standards (descriptors and cut scores linked to the 2009 science content standards for each grade tested in science) for the OAKS Science Extended Assessments. Oregon's alternate assessments ('Extended Assessments') are designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. Approximately 5000 students take these assessments each year.
ODE is seeking stakeholder input before taking these proposed alternate achievement standards to the Oregon State Board of Education for adoption. To provide your input on the proposed alternate science achievement standards, please respond to the survey posted under News Announcements ("Survey - Proposed Alternate Achievement Standards") at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=178. Once final, the new science alternate achievement standards will be posted for use at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=178.
