ODE uses the National Center for Special Education Accountability Monitoring (NCSEAM) Family Survey. Each district is surveyed once during the six-year sampling cycle. Survey results are incorporated into the district's Special Education Report Card. In small districts, all families are surveyed; in large districts random sampling is used. The survey results report the percent of parents who say that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. The survey includes questions on the district's efforts to partner with parents, the quality of special education services, and the impact of special education services on family and parent participation in the special education process. The attached sample letter was developed by ODE. We encourage you to share this letter with parents at annual IEP meetings or include the letter during the distribution of the Special Education Report Card. You may revise the letter to include information on local parent involvement activities and volunteer opportunities. We also attached a flyer for families who may be asked to participate in the 2013 parent involvement survey. Please share this flyer with families of children with disabilities residing in the following school districts: Annex, Bend-LaPine, Black Butte, Dayville, Elkton, Fossil, Gervais, Gladstone, Gresham-Barlow, Harney County #3, Hermiston, Hillsboro, Hood River County, Ione, Molalla River, Mt Angel, Myrtle Point, Nyssa, Oakland, Oregon Trail, Pine Creek, Plush, Powers, Riverdale, Scappoose, Siuslaw, South Lane, St Paul, Sutherlin, Troy, Union, Willamina and Yoncalla. We anticipate that the surveys will be mailed to parents in mid-April. If you have questions or would like a copy of the survey, please contact Robbi Perry at 503-947-5782 or robbi.perry at state.or.us. The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) applied for and is receiving intensive Technical Assistance (TA) from the National Post-School Outcome Center (NPSO) for the next year. As part of this collaboration, ODE has developed a work plan that includes the goal to improve the Post School Outcome (PSO 2.0) data collection process and procedures. To meet this goal, we need districts to provide the following: 1) Names and contact information for those personnel expected to be making the calls to students to complete the Follow Up data collection this year (interview); and, 2) Names and contact information for those personnel in your district who provide transition services to the students (Transition teachers/specialists). The PSO 2.0 application now includes four check boxes on the Agency Contact bar at the lower part of the opening screen. After entering a name and contact information, you can check one or more of the four choices: a) contact for the Exit collection, b) contact for the Follow Up collection, c) interviewer, and d) secondary transition teacher or specialist. The names and contact information must be entered by May 9, 2013. Webinar training will be held at 2:00 pm on May 13, 2013 on the Post School Outcome Collection. Information will be available on future opportunities including topics such as improving your district's response rate, reaching hard to find kids, and soliciting feedback on the collection procedures. Information on getting access to the WebEx Conference can be found at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=336. The optional Exit Collection is open now and the PSO Mandatory Follow Up Collection will open June 1st. The list of required students to interview will be posted April 25, 2013. If you have questions regarding the Webinar, contact Sally Simich at 503.947.5639 or email sally.simich at state.or.us. If you have technical questions about entering the district contact information contact Pattie Johnson at 503.838.8779 or email johnsop at wou.edu. Thank you again for your quick response in providing the department with this information.
