These estimates are based on funding allocations provided by the US Department of Education on April 25, 2013, and account for sequestration. IDEA grants from the US Department of Education are made available to states in two parts, one on July 1 and one on October 1. Because sequestration impacts Federal Fiscal Year 2013 (ending 9/30/13), the full amount of the reductions ($6,711,453 for Part B, Section 611 and $202,665 for Part B, Section 619) must be taken from the July 1, 2013 allocation. This means that unlike previous years in which districts received two allocations (September and March), districts will receive three (September, October, and March). If you have any questions related to the 2013-14 IDEA Part B Funding Estimates or special education funding generally, please contact Steve Smith (steve.w.smith at state.or.us or 503.947.5711). Policy Group on Employment Services to Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities To: Office of Developmental Disability Services Stakeholders and Oregon Education Stakeholders From: DHS Director?s Office and ODE Deputy Superintendent?s Office Re: Call for Nominations ? Policy Group on Employment Services to Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities On April 16, 2013 Governor John Kitzhaber issued Executive Order 13-04. This order calls for specific actions to further improve Oregon?s systems of designing and delivering employment services to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DHS, working jointly with the Department of Education, will be taking lead in implementing the provisions of this Executive Order. One major provision of the Order is the creation of an ongoing Policy Group comprised of key stakeholders and community partners. This group is to: * Make recommendations to the Director of DHS and the Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction regarding the design and implementation on issues including but not limited to education, outreach, development of provider capacity, training, and processes for assessment and discovery. * Recommend outcomes and metrics to the State, review the State?s performance under those metrics, and make annual recommendations to the Governor for improving performance. The Policy Group needs to be formed by July I, 2013, and this letter is to seek nominations for membership on the Policy Group as outlined in the Executive Order. The structure in terms of meeting frequency of the Policy Group is not yet finalized. However, this will be a substantial commitment of time. We anticipate a membership of 20-30 individuals with the goal of representation of all key stakeholder and constituent groups. The Executive Order in its entirety can be viewed at: http://www.oregon.gov/gov/docs/executive_orders/eo_13-04.pdf. There is a small fund set up to help self-advocates and family members to be able to participate. This fund is dedicated to help with transportation, child care and other similar expenses. Funds will be granted on an individual basis as available. If you are an individual interested in participating and nominating yourself, please answer the following questions: Name: Title (if applicable): What stakeholder or constituent group would you be representing? Why are you interested in participating on the Policy Group? Can you commit to consistent participation on the group? Are there specific accommodations necessary for you to participate? If you are a constituent/stakeholder group nominating an individual to represent you, please provide the following information: Name of organization: Stakeholder/constituent group representing: Individual(s) Nominating: Role of individual within your group: Contact information for individual(s): Please email your nomination to: Mike.J.Maley at state.or.us by the end of the day on Wednesday, June 5th. Finally, please forward this letter to any other person or organization you feel might be interested in participating on the Policy Group. Thank you!
