Because this collection is often done by someone in the district outside of the SPED "world", districts found some kids on IEPs were miscoded and identified as dropouts when really they were in a district transition program, or had left with a modified or extended diploma. Unfortunately, this is the collection where graduation and dropout data comes from each year. This is to inform you that the NCES Dropout Rate validation opens October 30th, and the Cohort Graduation Rate validations will open November 6th. Both validations close on December 12th. The Exit Adjustment Window will be open October 16th through December 1st. Trainings on these validations and the Exit Adjustment Window are scheduled for 2 pm on October 13th (part 1) and October 28th (part 2). There will be a number of changes to the graduation and dropout reports this year: * Students earning modified diplomas will count as graduates * Students who have met diploma requirements but have not been awarded their diplomas will count as graduates in the cohort rates. The Cohort Policy and Technical Manual and the Dropout Rate and Exit Adjustment Manual have been posted.
