<div><b>RE:</b> <b>Idea Grants for Enhancement Professional Development</b></div>

<div>Shortly you will receive a notification about an enhancement grant which is specified for activities related directly to special education professional development efforts. These have been called <b>enhancement grants</b> and come from ODE discretionary
IDEA funds. Over the past few years, we have determined that part of ODE's federal allocation, which does not get distributed through formula, should be shared with you to direct the activities you need to accomplish. </div>

<div style="text-indent: 36pt; ">1. Please understand that this is in addition to your IDEA formal flow through allocation and should not be confused with that allocation. </div>
<div style="text-indent: 36pt; "> </div>
<div style="text-indent: 36pt; ">2. Please know that in order to disseminate these funds as quickly as possible, we are using the same allocations as used last year. </div>
<div style="text-indent: 36pt; "> </div>
<div style="text-indent: 36pt; ">3. You already received funds for extended assessment efforts earlier this year so these funds are in addition to that allocation. </div>

<ol start="4" style="margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-left: 54pt; ">
<li>This enhancement grant, similar to last year, may be used for such things as: a) RTI efforts, b) PBS efforts, c) expanded SPR&I activities and improvement planning, </li></ol>
<div style="padding-left: 54pt; ">d) determination issues, e) other trainings specifically related to support for students with disabilities, and 7) other activities that enhance the understanding of and process for special education. </div>

<div><b>The funds from this grant </b><u><b>may not</b></u><b> be used to purchase equipment, or to pay for existing staff payroll or benefit costs. Substitute costs which enable select staff to attend trainings </b><u><b>are allowable</b></u><b> expenses on
this grant. </b></div>
<div> </div>
<div>Please consider a plan for spending these valuable funds in a timely manner. Waiting until the last minute does not benefit students<font color="#000080"> </font>or staff in their efforts to enhance instruction or support. The last day to encumber these
funds will be September 30, 2009. </div>
