on the north/cold side of an unseasonably strong westerly jet stream that is
forecast to be centered over extreme northern California.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Fast-moving impulses will ride along the jet
stream, maintaining mostly cloudy, cool, and showery conditions statewide.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Daytime heating will destabilize the
atmosphere, with more vigorous shower activity likely in the afternoon and
early evening.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Courier New"'>Precipitation totals
should generally range from one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Snow levels will fluctuate with shower
intensity but remain mostly around 4000 feet.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
</span>High temperatures will continue to be 10-15 degrees below normal.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Despite cool surface temperatures, cold air
aloft will promote fair to good daytime mixing with mostly westerly transport
winds.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

"Times New Roman"'>OUTLOOK (SATURDAY-MONDAY)<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Courier New"'>An impressive
weather disturbance is forecast come onshore Saturday but will be directed mainly
into northern California.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>The strong
westerly jet stream will get depressed southward, to over central California,
with an upper-level trough getting carved out over the Pacific Northwest.
Showers are still likely, but precipitation totals should be less than on
Friday, with most areas picking up less than one-tenth of an inch.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Temperatures will remain 10-15 degrees below
normal with the snow level lifting slightly, to around 5000 feet.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Cool air aloft will maintain fair to good
daytime mixing with transport winds turning mostly northerly.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Courier New"'>Things should dry
out on Sunday, as the upper-level trough weakens and drifts southeastward, to
over Nevada.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>A few showers will likely
circulate into the eastern areas, while a weak and transitory upper-level ridge
introduces a drier, northerly, flow into the western zones.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>The freezing level will rise to 6-7000 feet,
and temperatures will recover to within 5-10 degrees of normal.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Warming aloft will slightly suppress
afternoon mixing heights with light mostly northerly transport winds.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Courier New"'>Another upper-level
trough is forecast to move within 300 miles of the Oregon coast, on Monday,
forcing a cold front across the state.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
</span>The jet stream energy will be focused mainly over northern California
and southern Oregon, but a moistening south-southwesterly flow aloft will
destabilize the air mass, bringing showers back into northeastern Oregon by the
afternoon.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>Maximum temperatures may get
within 5 degrees of normal.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>The snow
level will hold near 6000 feet with fair to good mixing and light mostly
