SMOKE MANAGEMENT FORECAST AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. DISCUSSION AND FORECAST FOR SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON ZONES 624 AND 625
Upper air charts show a weak upper disturbance moving through southern British Columbia and a strong upper ridge building in the Gulf of Alaska. The atmosphere will be very stable for poor smoke dispersal conditions.
2. DISPERSION
MONDAY
Mixing height below 1000 ft during the morning. Afternoon mixing height rises to 1000 - 1800 ft then lowers below 1000 ft during the evening.
Transport wind S to SW at 8 - 14 mph during the morning. Transport wind shifts to WSW to WNW at 8 - 12 mph during the afternoon and shifts to WNW to NNW at 6 - 10 mph during the evening.
Surface wind S to SW at 4 - 8 mph during the morning. Surface wind becomes light and variable and controlled by local terrain during the afternoon and evening.
3. BURNING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ZONES 624 AND 625 INCLUDING THE WALKER
RANGE PORTION OF ZONE 624
This instruction is valid for burning conducted on Monday, November 30, 2009.

Unfavorable burning situation due to very poor smoke dispersion. Delay ignitions until 11:00am. Avoid ignitions within 20 miles in all directions of SSRAs. For units that will smolder significantly through the night avoid burning within at least 35 miles in all directions of SSRAs. Watch for shifting transport winds. Recommend against burning units that will smolder significantly overnight. Complete ignitions by 3:00pm.
