SMOKE MANAGEMENT FORECAST AND INSTRUCTIONS
SALEM FORESTRY WEATHER CENTER

1.  DISCUSSION AND FORECAST FOR SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON ZONES 624 AND 625

Monday will see southwesterly flow, dry weather and good smoke ventilation conditions.

    OUTLOOK (TUESDAY-SATURDAY)

Rain reaches the area by morning, but mixing heights remain good with a moderate south-southeasterly transport flow over south-central Oregon.  The rain decreases late Wednesday afternoon and weather should be dry on Thursday.  Both Wednesday and Thursday should have generally good smoke dispersal conditions.

2.  DISPERSION

MONDAY
Mixing height 2400 - 3400 ft during the morning.  Afternoon mixing height rises to 3700 - 4700 ft then lowers to 3000 - 4000 ft during the evening.

Transport wind SSW to SW at 12 - 24 mph.

Surface wind SSW to SW at 10 - 18 mph during the morning and afternoon.  Surface wind decreases to SW to WSW at 8 - 14 mph during the evening.

OUTLOOK:

TUESDAY
Mixing height 4100 - 5000 ft during the morning rising above 5000 ft during the afternoon.  Transport wind SSW to SSW at 25 - 45 mph.  Surface wind S to SSW at 14 - 28 mph.

WEDNESDAY
Mixing height 2200 - 3200 ft during the morning rising to 3500 - 4500 ft during the afternoon.  Transport wind SSE to SSW at 4 - 8 mph during the morning becoming light and variable during the afternoon.  Surface wind light and variable.

THURSDAY
Mixing height below 1000 ft early rising to 3000 - 4000 ft by late morning rising to 4500 - 5000 ft during the afternoon.  Transport wind light and variable.  Surface wind light and variable.

3.  BURNING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ZONES 624 AND 625 INCLUDING THE WALKER
    RANGE PORTION OF ZONE 624
    This instruction is valid for burning conducted on Monday, October 12, 2009.

Avoid ignitions within 12 miles to the SSW through WSW of SSRAs.  For units that will smolder significantly through the night avoid burning within at least 12 miles to the S through WSW in or near drainages leading to SSRAs.  No additional restrictions necessary.
