SMOKE MANAGEMENT FORECAST AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. DISCUSSION AND FORECAST FOR SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON ZONES 624 AND 625
An upper level trough moves across the region Monday and Monday night. Rain spreads across the region northwest to southeast as a Pacific front crosses the Cascades. Mixing heights remain high for good smoke dispersal conditions.
OUTLOOK (TUESDAY-THURSDAY)
An upper level ridge builds in the eastern Pacific. Post frontal showers continue on Tuesday. By Wednesday just widely scattered are likely. On Friday a surface high settles over the area for light winds but stability remains favorable for good smoke dispersal conditions throughout the region.
2. DISPERSION
MONDAY
Mixing height 3000 - 4000 ft during the morning. Mixing height rises above 5000 ft during the afternoon and evening.
Transport wind SW to WSW at 13 - 25 mph during the morning. Transport increases to SW to W at 29 - 49 mph during the afternoon then shifts to NW to NNW and decreases to 14 - 28 mph during the evening.
Surface wind SW to WSW at 10 - 20 mph during the morning. Surface increases to SW to W at 19 - 33 mph during the afternoon then shifts to NW to NNW and decreases to 10 - 22 mph during the evening.
OUTLOOK:
TUESDAY
Mixing height 4200 - 5000 ft during the morning rising above 5000 ft during the afternoon. Transport wind NW to NNW at 16 - 30 mph. Surface wind WNW to NNW at 10 - 18 mph.
WEDNESDAY
Mixing height 2500 - 3500 ft during the morning rising above 5000 ft during the afternoon. Transport wind light and variable. Surface wind light and variable.
THURSDAY
Mixing height below 1000 ft early rising to 1500 - 2500 ft by late morning rising above 5000 ft during the afternoon. Transport wind light and variable. Surface wind light and variable.
3. BURNING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ZONES 624 AND 625 INCLUDING THE WALKER
RANGE PORTION OF ZONE 624
This instruction is valid for burning conducted on Monday, October 26, 2009.

Avoid ignitions within 10 miles to the SW through NNW of SSRAs. Care needed in selecting units as smoke will likely fumigate along the ground in wind prone areas. Watch for shifting transport winds. No additional restrictions necessary.
