<div style="margin-top: 5pt; margin-bottom: 5pt; "><font face="Times New Roman, serif">Thanks to the efforts of gifted education advocates, and our supporters in Congress, the Fiscal Year 2009 educations appropriations bill (signed into law on March 10, 2009)
included $7.46 million for the <a href="/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=572"><font color="#0000FF"><u>Javits program</u></font></a>. This funding level is sufficient to continue the work of the <a href="http://www.gifted.uconn.edu/nrcgt.html"><font color="#0000FF"><u>National
Research Center on the Gifted and Talented</u></font></a> (NRC/GT) and to fund the 5-year, demonstration grants that inform "best practices" in working with disadvantaged gifted learners. The funding level, however, will not allow for state competitive grants
in 2009.</font></div>
<div style="margin-top: 5pt; margin-bottom: 5pt; "><font face="Times New Roman, serif"><b>We need your help on fiscal year 2010 funding</b>. Our Congressional supporters are sending letters to the House and Senate appropriations committees to ask for $11.25
million for the Javits program in fiscal year 2010. This would restore the program to its 2002 funding level and would be enough money for the NRC/GT, the 5-year demonstration programs, <i>and</i> for nearly $4 million for competitive statewide grants, which
help states build the capacity to support gifted learners. <b>Please contact your Senators and Representative and ask them to co-sign the "dear colleague" letters on the Javits program. </b>Here's how you can help:</font></div>
