WEST COAST DATA NETWORK MEETING, NOV 19-20, 2013</font></b></div><div><ul><li><font face="tahoma, sans-serif">The WCGA will be hosting the second West Coast Data Network meeting in Costa Mesa, CA on Nov. 19-20, 2013. It will be a chance to reconnect with Network members, learn about the West Coast Data Registry and Portal, and chart a path for our future.<font color="#000000"> Travel grants will be available to ensure participation from a wide range of constituencies. More information will be forthcoming. Please mark your calendars if you are interested in attending.</font><br>
</font></li></ul></div><div><b><font face="tahoma, sans-serif">DATA REGISTRY DESIGN ASSESSMENT REPORT RELEASED</font></b></div><div><ul><li><font face="tahoma, sans-serif">Ecotrust recently completed their assessment of various open source metadata catalogs (Geoportal, Geonetwork, CKAN, pyCSW) and provided a great comparison of each pro's and con's. It's a great resource for organizations that are looking to set up their own metadata catalogs for integration with the regional Data Registry. <a href="http://www.westcoastoceans.org/media/Data_Network_ACT/WCGA_RDF_Data_Registry_Design_Assessment.pdf" target="_blank">You can read it here</a>.</font></li>

<li><font face="tahoma, sans-serif">This training will be conducted by Jeff McKenna, of Gateway Geomatics, and members of the pycsw team, and is funded by a grant from the Federal Geographic Data Committee. This training is designed to present an overview of pycsw (<a href="http://pycsw.org/" target="_blank"><font color="blue"><u>http://pycsw.org/</u></font></a>) and the FGDC endorsed OGC catalog standard CSW as a means for sharing coastal and marine data via the web. Attendees will learn how to install, configure, and use pycsw to both publish and discover geospatial metadata. The course will be provided online and will allow interaction between the instructor and the attendees. The workshop will be conducted by one of the leaders of the Open Source community, Jeff McKenna, and members of the pycsw team. </font></li>
