<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt">Like RI we don’t have a Summer committee but we do have a Youth Services Advisory Board. We’ve recently made some changes because attendance has been so low in some cases we were canceling just about every
meeting. So this coming FY we’re going to go from 4 in-person meetings/year to one in-person in the fall, one virtual in the winter, and one in-person in the spring. We also dropped having a chair and secretary as usually Christi and I end up setting the agenda
and running the meeting and taking notes anyway. We also decided to drop terms for now-everyone who was currently on that wanted to stay on is staying and we’re looking for 2 new members. We also talked about some ways for the members to be more active without
stretching their time too much. One idea I love, that I think came from Michigan, is having the members present on something to do with summer programming for their webinar. Our group liked it too. Below is our official charge and extended charge which has
not changed. In addition to what’s listed below we have a group <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/mlsysadvisoryco/pins/">
Pinterest</a> account (but I am probably the most active on it).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The YS Advisory Committee charge:<span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">· Assess ongoing needs in the areas of youth services<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">· Provide direct member input<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">· Evaluate and suggest programs and services<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">In addition to the above charge, members of the YS Advisory Committee act as representatives of both their type of library and their location within the state to MLS. An understanding and participation in MLS events and mission are required
for participation. Examples of recent projects include assisting with planning breakouts for our annual teen summit, creating our Resource Guide for New MLS Members and providing feedback on the summer library program.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Committee members represent all areas of the state as well as both public and school libraries. <span style="font-size:14.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt">I would like to add that I really struggled with trying to keep this group going -their absence said to me a lack of interest but when we were finally able to meet in person this spring that was not the case.
And I do think it is extremely important to have a youth voice at the state level.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<a href="http://www.olis.ri.gov/youth/advisorycouncil.php">Youth Services Advisory Council</a> that is comprised of public children’s and teen librarians. They
</span>select the slate of educators/presenters for the SRP (I run an annual performers showcase and booking meeting, and my agency pays for each library to have one children’s and one teen performer) and provide input on what they need regarding tools, training,
and support for SRP. It’s a seven member committee with a two year term that meets 3-4 times Sept. – May. We also communicate often through email and Google docs. SRP isn’t the council’s sole focus as they also advise on continuing education and other timely
issues, but SRP is a large piece of what they do. <o:p></o:p></p>
